How do I calculate hours worked from a time card?
Add up the time between each clock-in and clock-out, subtract any unpaid breaks, then total the days. This calculator does it for you: enter the in and out times plus break minutes for each day and it returns your weekly hours and pay.
How do I convert minutes to decimal hours for payroll?
Divide the minutes by 60. For example, 30 minutes is 0.5 hours and 15 minutes is 0.25 hours. The calculator shows the total both ways, as H:MM and as decimal hours, so you can drop it straight into payroll.
How is overtime calculated?
In the US, hours over 40 in a workweek are usually paid at 1.5 times the regular rate. Turn on overtime and the calculator splits your regular and overtime hours and pays the overtime at time and a half.
Does the calculator handle overnight shifts?
Yes. When the clock-out time is earlier than the clock-in time, the calculator treats the shift as crossing midnight and counts the hours correctly.
